Hogan: "I had a long discussion with the President this evening ... He supports our actions."
Hogan: This is "lawless gangs of thugs" roaming the streets and destroying property.
Baltimore City Councilman Brandon Scott:
"I’m pissed off. This is the city that I love. We can cannot stand idle and let cowards ruin our city. If you are an adult and you are out there participating in this, you are ruining the future for these young people.
Ever able man and women needs to get out there and stand tall and stand up for your neighborhood. We cannot let this be a repeat of 1968. The neighborhood they’re in right now is still burned down from 1968."
Dispatch from Sun reporter Mark Puente:
A new senior center being built by the Southern Baptist Church in East Baltimore was ablaze Monday night – a huge, raging fire visible from blocks away. Several ladder trucks were attempting to quell the fire, at the corner of North Chester and East Lanvale streets, and keep it from spreading to nearby houses. The new center was being built across the street from the church.
Out front, about 60 parishioners watched in shock, many of them crying. “Who would do this to our church,” one woman sobbed. “Why, why,” she asked.
